Stress is everything and anything that triggers pressure or tension and creates that overwhelming feeling that everything is too much for us. There are stresses that are challenging to us in a healthy way, but there are a lot of stresses that affect both our mental health and our physical health negatively.
How you react to a challenge (stress), in part, is physiological and it affects your physical state. When you are met with a challenge, your body naturally creates systems and resources to protect you in a fight or flight mode. Our body’s sympathetic nervous system reacts to a challenging event by activating a fight or flight response.
The body produces higher amounts of adrenaline, cortisol; which increases blood sugar and suppresses the immune system, and noradrenaline; this increases the heart rate. These 3 together also trigger alertness, sweating and muscle tension.
So, in short, when you’re stressed out; your heart rate goes up, your immune system goes down, you increase your blood sugar levels, you sweat and you tense up. Added to this you sleep poorly, and your digestive system slows down as well.
Hypnosis can help you create the right state of mind or emotion before the challenge even arises. This in turn will be able to change your perspective and manage your reactions in relation to the challenge when the time comes again.
